I have written before on some of the policy responses to the alcohol crisis facing Wales and the UK. I am pleased to see that there is at least some move for more sensible policies in England following the report of the Health Select Committee. Well done those MPs who have looked at the evidence and come to a sound conclusion.
Minimum pricing however is only part of a package needed, and alongside stronger enforcement action on shops that break the terms of their license, much more needs to be done to support those who are addicted to alcohol and want to kick the habit. It seems absurd that given the harm caused by alcoholism that wider provision isn't made for in and out patient rehabilitation services.
Problems with alcohol blight our communities and they need to be tackled immediately.
