Yesterday saw the first day of the General Election campaign proper - which promises to be a very long campaign indeed! Labour launched a detailed attack on the finances of Conservative proposals, while the Conservatives, desperately chasing positive headlines, said initially they wouldn't reintroduce a married persons tax allowance and then said they would.
In many ways the opening Labour-Tory skirmishes reflect what is wrong with the two biggest parties. Labour has run out of steam and will content itself with trying to attack the Tories rather than presenting any new ideas of their own. The Tories will do or say anything for a good headline - with policies that are wafer thin in detail!
For Plaid in Cynon Valley not much will change. We will continue to campaign locally all year round, as we have been for the last two years, on issues of concern - whether it's alcohol related bad behaviour, speeding traffic or reopening the rail line between Aberdare and Hirwaun. We'll also be tackling some of the major issues facing the country - creating better jobs, ensuring better support services for our armed forces and securing a fair financial deal for Wales.
In Cynon Valley the General Election choice will be a straightforward one - Labour or Plaid. A tired and worn out Labour Government, led by one of the worst Prime Ministers of the last 100 years, or a strong, local, independently minded Plaid MP who will always put the people of this Valley first.
If you're interested in getting involved in the campaign to create a better Cynon Valley please get in touch.

What about rct education policy?
We've already been working on challenging the Labour Party's plans to close a number of schools in the Cynon Valley and across RCT. The impact of a poorly thought through plan aimed at saving money could cause chaos and serious impact our children's education.
